RAMA is a web application for visualizing and interacting with networks of music artists. It uses data of roughly 200000 artists and 3 million tags, collected from Last.fm's API. Data includes artists similarities, associated tags and popularity.
RAMA provides two simultaneous layers of information:
Trough the use of YouTube API users can also listen to music while exploring the map and if they like what is playing, it is possible to save the songs into a playlist that can be exported to a text file and later loaded again into RAMA (or any other app that can read simple text files).
RAMA has been successfully tested on recent (as of 2011) versions of Windows, Linux, Mac OS, IOS and Android, but know that it requires quite some processing power, so on weak processors it won't run smoothly.
RAMA has been tested successfully with the following web browsers: Firefox 4.0 or greater (NOTE: it does not work on Firefox 8.0.1) and Google Chrome 15 or greater. It also works on Safari with the exception of the playlist upload which will only work when version 5.1 comes out.
RAMA provides two simultaneous layers of information:
- A map built from artist similarity data, modeled as a physical system using the framework Arbor.js
- Overlaid labels containing user-defined tags.
Trough the use of YouTube API users can also listen to music while exploring the map and if they like what is playing, it is possible to save the songs into a playlist that can be exported to a text file and later loaded again into RAMA (or any other app that can read simple text files).
